Unwavering Love

"So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. May our Lord Jesus Christ him and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word." 2 Thessalonians 2:15-16

College has proven to be a time of reflection. I often think about my life up to this point, and I ask if there was anything I could have done differently to feel more prepared for the frustrations I go through every day. Half the time I am letting my nerves and anxiety get the better of me, so I easily become frustrated with myself and blame others. I want to put the fault on everyone else but myself, when there is really no one to put the blame on at all. Everyone has difficult times throughout their day, but what matters the most is how we handle them.

Are you positive or negative? I am often at times a negative person, but by trying to put more emphasis on the positives in my day I have found myself much happier. Instead of stressing out over the amount of school work I have, I choose to push through it and remind myself that one day I will graduate from an incredible institution who prepared me for my future. Although workouts can be demanding and softball practices are not meant for the frigid cold, it is a blessing that God has allowed me to be a college athlete and work as a team with some of the most inspirational people on campus. Who am I to deserve these benefits?

When reading my Bible tonight, I found the words from 2 Thessalonians 2:15-16 speaking to my heart. In the Bible, it explains how God chose us to be saved by the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth of the word. We were called upon in hopes that we would share in the greatness of our God. By giving us eternal life, He gave us His unconditional love. In giving us life, He also gives us encouragement and hope that we will stay true to the word and turn to Him when times are not the easiest. The difficult moments bring about strength and prosperity when we least expect it.

I feel God's comfort and affection through the people He puts into my life. Some of my best friends in college just so happen to be my sorority sisters, and I do not think this is just a coincidence. I truly believe He placed each one of these girls into my life for a specific reason. When I am anxious and stressed, they make me smile and laugh. When I am weak, they give me strength. When I begin to look down upon myself, they remind me of true beauty and what it feels like to be loved regardless of our flaws. They behold the characteristics of beautiful, trustworthy and intelligent Godly women. I met them by the grace of God, and each day I see just what He has planned for me through their unwavering friendship.

In your toughest times and darkest days, may you remember how God is watching and encouraging your heart to find strength in pushing through. While I may discourage my self at times, I am starting to reassure myself that God doesn't send me challenges every day without a specific reason, and He never allows me to go through any situation alone. He believes in me and knows the strength I have within to push through any situation. He would not have put me here on Earth if He had any doubts.

With Love & Laughter,
Alison
